Nikki Colada

Pink

I had shot this still life in regards to my thoughts on the color pink and how it is overwhelming to the eye. The strength of the connotation, pink comes with, is frightening.

Photo Scans

These photos are an experiment of scanning objects. A small follow up to my previous photograms.
Rolling of the marbles is credited to Michael Chiang.

Photograms

"photogram is a photographic image made without a camera by placing objects directly onto the surface of a light-sensitive material such as photographic paperand then exposing it to light. The usual result is a negative shadow image that shows variations in tone that depends upon the transparency of the objects used. Areas of the paper that have received no light appear white; those exposed through transparent or semi-transparent objects appear grey" - WIkipedia

Here are some photograms I had done today. It was an interesting and fun experience to say the least :)
Hope you enjoy

Collaboration

"Selkies (also known as silkies or selchies) are mythological creatures found in FaroeseIcelandicIrish, and Scottish folklore. The word derives from earlier Scots selich, (fromOld English seolh meaning seal). Selkies are said to live as seals in the sea but shed their skin to become human on land. The legend apparently originated on the Orkney andShetland Islands." - says Wikipedia.

I had done a collaboration with some fellow photographers: Alex Clemmer, Zackery Hobler, Hayley Stewart. It was based on the Selkie myth. We all shot and edited together as a grand team.

Portfolio

Hey guys, I have been super busy and this is a giant update.
I have finished my portfolio series.

You can view it on my new website here:
www.aaronbatey.com

Here is my Artist Statement:

My first thoughts on developing this series were quite simple. I wanted to create a beautiful portrait series. The thought of having a message or an under laying theme, at the time, kept me from going forth. In frustration, I had just decided to take photographs and see where it took me. After a minimal amount of photographs, my body of work started to generate its own similarities and moods.

I had shot these environmental portraits in locations with strong geometric features to reflect on the evolvement of technology and our environment. I am also commenting on the emotions separation creates within us because of how evolution has shaped society. Throughout the series I had stayed consistent with uniform compositions, this being having the person smaller in the frame. The inspiration behind this was the ironic views of social networking. They keep people together by separating them.

This series of portraits expands and challenges my emotional relationship between the people I meet and the places I see. I continue to ripen my personality and my own views on society’s advancements. The world is slowly being taken over by technology, I am attempting to understand my choice to embrace it or just minimal amounts of it.

And on a side note, this is a random guy i saw in the hallways and i took a photo of him. Enjoy.

Joey Abdilla

The other day, I took a photo of Joey Abdilla. He is one of my friends from high school that will spend hours playing video games and watching anime with me. Last weekend it was his birthday! Happy birthday, happy birthday, happy birthday to Joey! It was great spending the weekend with him since sometimes I get too busy to visit my friends in other cities. It is very worth while to let go and relax with old friends. On that note, keep on rocking in the free world. Cheers!

Nicolle Colada

Here is a little shot I did of my girlfriend in the backyard one day. The lighting was so nice coming through the trees, I just couldn't help myself. I have been sick the last little while, so I haven't been on top of uploading photos, but I am starting to feel good which is good. The bugs going around, so if your unfortunately sick I hope you feel better. Good health to all and to all a good night.

Danny Nguyen

Today i shot a beautiful photographer by an abandoned hospital. Some scary stuff! Imagine if there was a zombie apocalypse, this would be the first place it starts. We would be able to use tripods and camera equipment to defend ourselves but nonetheless would be scary. If was a very fun shoot, turned out awesome. Hope you guys are as thrilled as I am.
Cheers!

Ps. here is his photography

The razor mouse

For one of my assignments I had to shoot an electronic, so I thought of shooting my gaming mouse, since it has a beautiful design to it. I bet I sound so geeky right now. The photo setup consisted of two sox-boxes, a grid, a red gel, and 4 gobo's. Large setup for such a small product. Setting up the lighting is really entertaining and exciting. It's kind of like a puzzle. Cheers!

Food and drink

Here is a shot I took in the studio the other day. A little out of the ordinary for me. It's a summer themed drink shot. Drink up and enjoy!

Zack Höbler

It was a beautiful day outside, I couldn't resist the temptation of shooting. Unfortunately by the time I could go out and shoot it got really windy and started snowing. I snuck some photos before the snow fall though. I  am quite pleased with how this shot turned out. I would like to double thank my good friend Zack Hobler for stepping up to the plate and being a beautiful model.

Zack is also an amazing photographer, check out some of his work here

And that concludes my post, have a great day and weekend!

Nikki

This here is a photo I took of my lovely girlfriend at Albion falls. It is another shot from one of my portfolio shoots. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. Throughout this project I'm trying out new techniques and ways to shoot my portraits. I think I am starting to get my head wrapped around it, it kind of really excites me. More photos from my shoots to come. Keep on rocking.

Location Scouting at its best

I apologize for not posting on my blog lately. I have been scouting locations for upcoming shoots and doing some deep planing. These are two locations I found (shot via Instagram). I have alot of shots planned for the upcoming weeks, so stay tunned.
